Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a demonstration by the West Coast Polymer Clay Guild at our monthly meeting. It was such a delightful treat!
Karen Wood and Christine Kaczmarek brought along many beautiful works including necklaces, bracelets, a decorative mirror, a clay painting, and even clay creatively interwoven into a basket. Our longtime member, Carol Spicuglia uses it for fantastic sculptures.
Karen gave a brief but fascinating history of just how polymer clay came to be, and explained how advancements have improved the medium such that it’s shaking its reputation for being for kids. She also explained the differences between Fimo, Premo, Sculpey and more. Artists of all ages are discovering the beauty of polymer clay.
Christine demonstrated how she thins and blends colored clays into gorgeous gradients that are folded and rolled into shapes that can be cut into flowers, leaves, and all kinds of lovely geometric patterns. If you’re interested in checking out this flexible, colorful medium, please join them the third Saturday of month at the Guild, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Cost $25 yearly membership to the WCPCG and $4 each meeting.
