Looking for a quick read to get your creative juices flowing? Check out “Steal Like an Artist: Ten Things No One Told You About Creativity” by Austin Kleon. It’s a short, concise, easy-to-read book filled with the author’s fun illustrations.
Kleon cautions that he does not mean ‘steal’ as in plagiarize, skim or rip off — but study, credit, remix, mash up and transform the work of others as a pathway to creativity. He suggests that creative work builds on what came before, and thus nothing is completely original. “Doing a deep dive into a range of your favorite artists will make you realize you can be part of a creative lineage,” says Kleon.
Stay tuned for snapshots of Kleon’s other two books in this series – “Show Your Work” and “Keep Going.”
