Watercolor Portrait Painting Simplified
Learn to create effective portraits with Watercolor Portrait artist Ron Malone on March 26, 2022. All levels welcome. You will discover new ideas and techniques on how to improve your portrait painting process, from shooting and transferring reference photos, mixing flesh colors, to capturing facial features. 30% of time is devoted to learning and 70% will focus on your painting process with instructor input.
The workshop atmosphere is lively and interactive to encourage you to take creative risks and try new things. Ron will demonstrate and explain key techniques and methods, live and displayed on big-screen HD monitor.

Each artist will be provided with “Malone’s Workshop Artist Guide”. The guide has the information, graphics covered during the workshop, and a space to capture notes.
Reference Photos and Drawings. Ron will supply a reference photo and a line drawing for tracing. You can use your own reference photo, pre-drawn, on the WC paper, but please follow his photo then transfer guidelines (below)

Your Reference Photos: When shooting your reference photos, lighting is very important. Position the subject so the light is coming from one side of the face and casting shadows to the other side of the face. Catch some light on the cheek of the shadowed side. This is called “Rembrandt Lighting”. See example above.
